Google has announced that the GA4 configuration tag in Google Tag Manager will be replaced by the Google tag. Such news will leave many people heartbroken, but rest assured, you won’t have to manually convert all your current GA4 configuration tags to Google tags. Google indicates that it will automatically upgrade all the GA4 configuration tags you have already implemented to the Google tag. You do not need to take any action for this.
As of early September it will be possible to implement GTM using the Google tag. By replacing the GTM GA4 configuration tag, Google is trying to make it easier to send your data to other Google products, because this will also be possible via the Google tag. For example, you can send conversions to Google Ads using the Google tag. The arrival of the Google tag will also make it possible to reuse parameters at configuration and event level. For more information about this change, please read the announcement on the Google support pagina.
