Google Analytics 4 (GA4) – Update on low GA4 API quotas and Looker Studio issues

Many of us use Google’s Looker Studio (formerly Google Data Studio) to visualize the data from Google Analytics 4 (GA4). Importing data to Looker Studio from GA4 is done via the Google Analytics 4 API. Looker Studio sends a request to the GA4 API, after which the GA4 API retrieves the data and sends it back to Looker Studio. You cannot do this indefinitely, because requesting data is subject to a so-called quota. This is a limit on the number of requests you can make to the GA4 API within a certain time period (simultaneous/hourly/per day). This is set by Google to ensure that their systems are not overloaded by too many simultaneous requests, to prevent abuse and of course to make money from it.

After Google significantly reduced the GA4 API quota a while ago, many people ran into problems every time they tried to load reports into Looker Studio. The Looker Studio community subsequently aired its dissatisfaction on Twitter/X, among other platforms. A recent response from the Google Analytics team turned out to be a let-down, as the quota was only increased marginally.

Fortunately, we are now hearing positive things on LinkedIn about significantly increased quotas. For example, Charles Farina shows the following quotas in this post. Have our voices really been heard?
